Online Psychoeducation for sexual dysfunction in cancer survivors (OPES)

This new pilot study will test an internet-based psychoeducational intervention for men and women with sexual difficulties after surgery for colorectal (men and women) or gynecological (women only) cancer. Efficacy of the psychoeducation is measured with questionnaire completed pre-treatment, upon completing treatment and again at 6 months post treatment.

Entry criteria:

  • Male or female, between the ages of 19 and 70
  • Currently in a relationship/li>
  • Currently experiencing sexual difficulties
  • Have undergone a hysterectomy
  • Have received surgical treatment of gynaecologic or colorectal cancer    within the past 5 years
  • Access to a computer with internet connection

Cervical or endometrial Cancer and Sexual Health (CEC)

We are exploring the efficacy of a psychoeducational intervention for the treatment of sexual difficulties in women with a history of cervical or endometrial cancers. The treatment consists of completing a questionnaire package at three time-points, undergoing arousal testing, attending three, 1.25-hour individual treatment sessions with Dr. Brotto and completing at-home exercises between sessions.

Entry criteria:

  • Must be female, between the ages of 19-65
  • Able to read, write and speak English fluently
  • History of cervical or endometrial cancer
  • Have undergone a hysterectomy
  • Completed cancer treatment at least 1 yr previous
  • Currently experiencing sexual desire and/or arousal difficulties

Advanced Ovarian cancer and Sexuality - Phase 2 (ANOVA- Phase 2)

The purpose of the second phase of this study is to obtain a better understanding of how intimacy and sexual health are impacted with ovarian cancer by conducting a focus group with women who have been diagnosed with ovarian cancer.

Entry criteria:

  • Must be female, between the ages of 19-65
  • Able to read, write and speak English fluently
  • History of ovarian cancer

Trachelectomy, Radical Hysterectomy, and Intimate Life After Cervical Cancer Study (TRAIL-CEC)

Women undergoing either a trachelectomy (removal of cervix) or radical hysterectomy (removal of the cervix and the uterus) for the treatment of cervical cancer complete questionnaires related to sexual functioning and other measures pre-surgery, one month and 6 months post-surgery. The purpose of this study is to determine whether the removal of the uterus for cervical cancer treatment has an effect on sexual health in the cervical cancer patient.

Entry criteria:

  • Must be female, between the ages of 19-65
  • Ability to read, write and speak English fluently
  • Had either a radical hysterectomy or trachelectomy for treatment of cervical cancer
