Dr Brian Galliford receives the Carl Nimrod Education Award

December 8 , 2011

Congratulations!

On December 3, 2011, Dr. Brian Galliford was awarded the Carl Nimrod Education Award at the annual meeting of the Association of Professionals in Obstetrics & Gynaecology.  He is a long-standing clinician educator at the first distributed site, the Northern Medical Program in Prince George. He is an equal opportunity teacher, teaching nurses, midwives, family physicians and our students and residents. All of his learners sing his praises. They respect him for his impressive clinical skills, and his calm demeanor, regardless of the circumstances. They are grateful for his patience and the time he dedicates to teaching his colleagues.  This is reflected in a letter of nomination from one of his colleagues in Prince George:

“His many years of clinical experience, wisdom and wealth of knowledge are unparalleled. As a resident under his supervision 10 years ago and now as a colleague, I remain impressed by his professionalism, kindness and humility. His trademark whistling heralds his arrival to the maternity ward and is always greeted with a sigh of relief. His calm presence brings comfort, knowing that he can get you out of any difficult situation. His teaching style is not overbearing but rather very low key. He encourages autonomy and independent thinking and in so doing, he instills self confidence. He is tireless in his devotion to teaching and to this day still finds joy in imparting his knowledge to others.”

The distributed Medical Program is an essential part of the UBC Faculty of Medicine, and of our department.  Its success depends on the dedication and excellence of the clinician educators at our distributed sites.  Dr. Brian Galliford is one of those who has made the distributed program work and is most deserving of this award.
