PHC Maternity service mission award

June 16, 2011

With the theme “Making a Difference,” Providence Health Care’s annual community meeting on June 15th celebrated the past-year achievements of staff, physicians, and researchers with over 200 attendees.  The event included representatives from our numerous health authority partners, community and business stakeholders, and municipal leaders.

The main highlight this year was the celebration of PHC people through the presentation of the 2010 Faye Meuser Memorial Leadership Award, and the  Mission Awards.

Faye Meuser was an exceptional nursing leader who spent 27 years in various nursing management positions at Providence Health Care until her retirement. She passed away in June 2007 and, in recognition of her contributions to PHC and her strong leadership, Providence Health Care and St. Paul’s Hospital Foundation have established this award in her memory.  This year’s recipient is Jennifer Duff, Operations Leader, Maternity and the Neo-natal Intensive Care unit. She was nominated for being a highly respected, visionary leader with a solid reputation as a mentor, role model, colleague and change agent. For her nomination submission, one of the nominators stated “Jennifer exemplifies leadership within the Mission, Vision and Values of the organization. She was chosen among the Nation as an emerging leader in health care, under the age of 40, for the 2011 Emerging Health Leader Scholarship, and was sent to Sweden to study health care models.”

The Mission Awards are presented in three categories: acute care; residential care; and team excellence – they recognize those who truly represent how we continue to live the mission and values of the Sisters who founded our organization.   This year the mission award for team excellence, also known as the 2011 Foundress Mission Team Award was awarded to the  St. Paul’s Hospital Maternity Services Program , including Nursing, Family Physicians, Midwives, Obstetricians and Operations Leader.   At the event, the team was represented by Jennifer Duff, Operations Leader, and Dr. Geoff Cundiff, Head, Department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology; Cheri Jeffs, Registered Nurse, Maternity; Jenna Baumgartner, Registered Nurse; and Dr. Antoinette vanden Brekel, Pedriatician.  The award recognized the significant accomplishments of the team in establishing a multi-disciplinary program focused on quality and patient satisfaction.
